In The News

Hello Mr. & Mrs. America, astronauts in flight and all the ships at sea. Here is all the news that is the news, from Tahoe Douglas, the greatest little Rotary Club in the West.

Bulletins & Links from Cheryl Z.

Rotary Youth Exchange. (RYE) –

The Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club has no shortage of success stories. And one of the most ongoing adventures of the Club is our participation in RYE. Through the determined leadership of Rotarians Rick Lusby and Cheryl Zaracoff, (and Tony Grasso before them), Tahoe Douglas has a solid history of sponsoring both outgoing and incoming students.

With that, we say so long for now to Juan "Juanchi" Uremovich, our immediate past RYE incoming student from the city of Comodoro Rivadavia in the country of Argentina. Juanchi is a fine young man who will take home some fond memories of his year in the North.

For the 2006/2007 school year we welcome inbound RYE student, Gabriel Camargo, from the city of Presidente Prudente in the country of Brazil. Gabriel will be attending Whittell High School at Zephyr Cove, Nevada.

For outbound students, we welcome home Nikka Hsiao who has spent the past year with Rotarians in the country of Argentina. And we say Bon Voyage to Jennifer Prebezac who will be studying in France courtesy of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. The long road to peace in this wonderful wide world of ours - starts with our youth.

JUNE 2006
Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club Donates $32,500 to the Community

The Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club recently held a meeting that showed the sincere generosity of our wonderful Lake Tahoe community. Club members and guests joined together to celebrate our collective fund raising efforts. The club continued its great 44-year tradition of community service with donations to 25 local organizations. It was truly heart warming to see volunteers from these deserving organizations express their thanks and gratitude for the support. The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self” and it really does feel great to give back to the wonderful citizens of Lake Tahoe.

The Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club also recently awarded academic scholarships totaling $9,000 to eleven George Whittell High School seniors. Congratulations to the winners: Matthew Andrew, Casey Brumbach, Danielle Daly, Sebastian Diaz, Hannah Harris, Meri Johnson, Kathryn Komorowski, Jayme Lowe, Christina Richardson, Tara Scaduto and Zachary Witt. Each student completed a written application and personal statement. A committee of Tahoe Douglas Rotarians then interviewed the scholarship candidates. The winners met the grade point average guidelines established by the club. They also excelled in community service and other extra-curricular activities.
